The Luby’s Cafeteria massacre in Killeen, Texas, was one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history at the time. The gunman, 35-year-old George Hennard, drove his truck through the front window of the restaurant. He exited the truck armed with a Glock 17 9mm pistol and a Ruger P89 9mm pistol. He quickly opened fire indiscriminately killing 23 people and injuring 27 others before turning a gun on himself ending his own life.
Hennard experienced mental health issues. He Exhibited paranoia, resentment, and misogyny. He often expressed anger toward women, blaming them for his failures. He was obsessed with violence and was known to having praised mass killers and spoken about his hatred for minorities.
His attack may have been racial motivated. Some victims were minorities, though the attack was primarily indiscriminate.
