On March 21, 2005, Red Lake Senior High School in Minnesota was the site of a devastating mass shooting carried out by 16-year-old student Jeffrey Weise. This tragedy resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including the perpetrator, and left several others injured. Weise began by killing his grandfather, Daryl "Dash" Lussier, a tribal police officer, and Lussier's companion Michelle Sigana, at their home. Weise then took his grandfather's police-issued weapons. A Glock 40-caliber pistol, a shotgun. a .22-caliber rifle and bulletproof vest.

Driving his grandfather's patrol vehicle, Weise arrived at Red Lake Senior High School around 2:00 p.m. He fatally shot an unarmed security guard at the entrance, proceeded to kill a teacher and five students, and wounded several others. After exchanging gunfire with responding police officers, Weise retreated into a classroom and took his own life.
