SCHOOL SHOOTERS

T.J. Lane was a troubled teen with a history of violence in his family. He lived with his grandparents and attended an alternative school. However, Lane carried out his attack at Chardon High School, where his ex-girlfriend was enrolled. T.J. displayed sociopathic tendencies but there were no clear motives identified for the attack.

On February 27, 2012, in Chardon, Ohio, Lane arrived at Chardon High School before school started. He entered the cafeteria armed with a Ruger .22 caliber handgun and randomly opened fire. He walked away calmly after mortally injuring 3 students and wounding 3. He was arrested nearby. During trial, Lane showed no remorse — in fact, he smiled and wore a T-shirt with the word “KILLER,” written crudely across the front in marker. As if that’s bad enough, T.J. mocked the families of his victims. He was sentenced to 3 life terms without parole. In 2014, Lane escaped prison briefly with two others but was recaptured.
