The I-70 Killer is an unidentified serial killer responsible for a series of murders in the Midwest during the spring of 1992. The nickname derives from the proximity of the crime scenes to Interstate 70. The killer targeted store clerks, predominantly young women working alone in specialty shops.
Witnesses describe the killer as a slender white male with reddish hair, armed with an Uzi-style gun. Despite extensive investigations, the I-70 Killer remains unidentified. The case continues to be a subject of interest, with law enforcement and true crime communities seeking new leads. Ballistics linked the murders to a .22 caliber firearm, specifically an Erma Werke Model ET22 pistol.
1. Robin Fuldauer – 26 years old. Killed on April 8, 1992, at Payless ShoeSource in Indianapolis, Indiana. The store manager was found fatally shot in the back room. Approximately $100 was missing from the cash register.
2. Patricia Magers – 32 years old. Killed on April 11, 1992, at Bride d'Elegance bridal shop in Wichita, Kansas. Magers was Killed on after hours while waiting for a customer.
3. Patricia Smith – 23 years old. Also killed on April 11, 1992, at the same bridal shop in Wichita. A witness encountered the suspect, who was armed, but was allowed to leave unharmed.
4. Michael McCown – 40 years old. Killed on April 27, 1992, at Sylvia's Ceramics in Terre Haute, Indiana. McCown was shot while stocking shelves. It's believed the killer mistook him for a woman due to his ponytail and the store's feminine name.
5. Nancy Kitzmiller – 24 years old. Killed on May 3, 1992, at Boot Village in St. Charles, Missouri. The 24-year-old was found shot in the back of the head. Money was taken from the register.
6. Sarah Blessing – 37 years old. Killed on May 7, 1992, at Store of Many Colors in Raytown, Missouri. Blessing was shot in her shop. A neighboring store owner heard the gunshot and saw the suspect leaving.
