By age 11, Panzram was incarcerated for theft. Throughout his life, he roamed the U.S., burglarizing homes, committing arson, rape, and murder. In 1920, he began murdering sailors and young boys, usually luring them with work or alcohol. He was arrested in 1928 for burglary and confessed to the murders in a cold, unapologetic manner.

Panzram rarely knew their names. Victims included transient workers, sailors, and boys. The exact number remains uncertain.
