David Parker Ray "Toy Box Killer", New Mexico (Active: 1950s-1999)
Ray was an American torturer, serial rapist, and suspected serial killer. He constructed a soundproofed trailer, referred to as his "Toy Box," equipped with various instruments of torture. He kidnapped and sexually assaulted numerous women, often with the assistance of accomplices, including his daughter, Glenda Jean Ray, and his partner, Cindy Hendy. While no bodies were ever recovered, it's suspected that Ray was responsible for up to 60 homicides. He was arrested in 1999 after a victim managed to escape and report him. In 2001, Ray was convicted of kidnapping and torture, receiving a sentence of 223 years in prison. He died of a heart attack in 2002, shortly before a scheduled interrogation.
Cynthia Vigil (Survivor) - In 1999, Vigil was kidnapped and held captive in Ray’s trailer. She managed to escape after three days of torture by seizing an opportune moment when Ray left the keys unattended.
Angelica Montano (Survivor) - She was another woman who claimed to have been abducted by Ray but was released and later reported the crime.
Kelly Garrett (Survivor) - Garrett was drugged, kidnapped, and tortured in 1996. She was later left unconscious by the side of a road.
Marie Parker (Presumed Dead) - She disappeared in 1997, and Ray’s accomplice, Dennis Yancy, admitted to strangling her under Ray’s orders.
Several Unidentified Victims - Investigators believe Ray may have killed multiple women over decades. His recorded tapes and journals suggested that he may have tortured and murdered numerous individuals, potentially numbering up to 60.
Despite extensive searches, no physical remains were definitively linked to Ray. His girlfriend and accomplice, Cindy Hendy, along with other associates, provided accounts suggesting that Ray disposed of bodies in remote locations or lakes. However, without bodies, he was convicted based on the testimony of survivors rather than homicide charges.
