Edmund Kemper "The Co-Ed Killer", California (Active 1964, 1972 – 1973)
Kemper is a convicted serial killer whose crimes in the early 1970s shocked the nation. His heinous acts were characterized by extreme violence and desecration of the victims' bodies. His ability to appear charming and intelligent allowed him to gain the trust of his victims, making his crimes even more chilling.
Edmund is still in prison. He is currently serving multiple life sentences at California Medical Facility in Vacaville, California. He has been denied parole several times.
1. Maude Matilda Hughey Kemper & Edmund Emil Kemper Sr. – Killed on August 27, 1964. At the age of 15, Kemper fatally shot his grandmother, Maude, during an argument at their California home. When his grandfather, Edmund Sr., returned, Kemper shot him as well, later stating he wanted to spare him the distress of his wife's death.
2. Mary Ann Pesce & Anita Luchessa – 18 years old. Killed on May 7, 1972. Kemper picked up both hitchhikers from Fresno State College, intending to take them to Stanford University. Instead, he drove them to a secluded area, where he murdered them and later dismembered their bodies.
3. Aiko Koo – 15 years old. Killed on September 14, 1972. Koo was hitchhiking to a dance class when Kemper offered her a ride. He drove to a remote location, where he choked her unconscious, killed her, and later dismembered her body.
4. Cindy Schall – 18 years old. Killed on January 7, 1973. Schall was picked up by Kemper on the Cabrillo College campus. He fatally shot her, took her body to his mother's house, and dismembered her remains.
5. Rosalind Thorpe & Allison Liu – 23 & 20 years old. Killed on February 5, 1973. Kemper encountered Thorpe & Liu on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus. He offered them a ride, then fatally shot both women and later dismembered their bodies.
6. Clarnell Strandberg & Sally Hallett – Killed on April 20, 1973. Kemper's final victims were his mother, Clarnell Strandberg and her friend, Sally Hallett. He killed his mother while she slept by bludgeoning her with a hammer. Kemper strangled Hallett the following day.
